12-14-07
Briefly describe the project:
Same as last week.
What have you accomplished this week?
What I have accomplished this week is that I got the wire that is attached to the wooden base and the controller to transfer connections through the wire to the motors. I also screwed a piece of steel on the wire so it can have strain relief.
What problems have you overcome this week?
The problems I have overcome is fixing the connection of the wire to the motor because it didn't work for some time, but then I re-screwed the screw and it fixed the problem.
What are the most significant problems you face at this time? What will you do to meet these problems?
The most significant problems I face at this time are attaching the wooden block wheel holders to the wooden base, and getting them to run by a rubber band pully system. I will meet these problems by asking my peers how they got theres to work, and talking to mr. connors about it.
What materials or information do you need? How do you plan on getting these materials or information?
The materials I need are a new power supply and a switch for my other motor that I will put on the controller. I will get this by either making a new one, or getting one from someone else.
11-30-07
Briefly describe the project:
The project is the same as last week's.
What have you accomplished this week?
What I have accomplished this week is that I attached the axels to the wooden blocks, and put steel plates over the groove so the axel could be sturdy and not fall out. I then attached nuts to the axel to secure it in place, and screwed on pullies along with disks to form wheels.
What problems have you overcome this week?
The problems I have overcome this week are getting the axel and wheels to be successfully in place on the wooden block, and placing all the materials in the right place.
What are the most significant problems you face at this time? What will you do to meet these problems?
The most significant problems that I probably face at this time, is getting the motors to make the wheels move from the pully system after screwing the wooden blocks that hold the wheels and axels into place. What I will do to meet these problems is test different methods that I think can make the project work, and figure out the best way to integrate the methods successfully in the car.
What materials or information do you need? How do you plan on getting these materials or information?
The materials I need right now is just a couple screws to screw in the wooden blocks, and rubber bands to get the pully system to move the wheels based on the motors. I plan on getting these materials from the class' supply station.
11-16-07
Briefly describe the project:
The project is to make a remote car with a wood base which runs by two motors that act as wheels.
What have you accomplished this week?
What I have accomplished this week is that I attached a working LED to the controller so it lights up when it is on. I also replaced the old wooden blocks with more sturdy ones and made a place for the axels to fit in them.
What problems have you overcome this week?
The problems that I have overcome were getting the LED to successfully conduct an electric flow from the battery to the switch.
What are the most significant problems you face at this time? What will you do to meet these problems?
The most significant problems that I face are getting the wheels to run from the motor and another set of wheels to run from a pully system. What I will do to meet these problems is work on a method that will run properly with my partner.
What materials or information do you need? How do you plan on getting these materials or information?
I need the information to complete the pully system between the two sets of wheels, and the materials to make that system. This might consist of rubber bands, compact disks, duct-tape, screws, and other materials. I plan on getting these materials from Mr. Connors and the class' supply stations.
11-09-07
Briefly describe the project:
The project is the same as the last week's updates.
What have you accomplished this week?
What I have accomplished this week is that I screwed the copper-clad board to the wooden base, attached the wires to the motors and copper-clad board, and screwed the blocks of wood into the wooden base.
What problems have you overcome this week?
The problems I have overcome are getting the wires to make the motor run, and attaching the wood to the base without it breaking.
What are the most significant problems you face at this time? What will you do to meet these problems?
The problems I face at this time are getting the wheels attached to the motors, and making the second wheels run from the motor that moves the first wheels. What I will do to meet these problems are figuring out a correct mechanism that can use the energy generated from the motors to move both wheels.
What materials or information do you need? How do you plan on getting these materials or information?
The materials that I need are disks that can be used as wheels and an elastic which can be used as a pully. I plan on getting these materials from Mr. Connors.
10-26-07
Briefly describe the project:
The project is to make a remote car with a wood base which runs by two motors that act as wheels.
What have you accomplished this week?
What I have accomplished this week is that I have attached the wooden motor holders to the car's base, and filed the copper-clad board.
What problems have you overcome this week?
The problems that I have overcome are finding out how to file the copper evenly, and attach the wood motor holders.
What are the most significant problems you face at this time? What will you do to meet these problems?
The most significant problems that I face at this time are attaching the copper to the wood, getting the wires to connect to the copper and remote, and making the motors able to run remotely.
What materials or information do you need? How do you plan on getting these materials or information?
The materials and information that I need are the screws to hold the copper into place, the motors, and the knowledge of making everything work together.
10-19-07
Briefly describe the project:
The project is to make a jumper car.
What have you accomplished this week?
What I have accomplished this week is I completed the jumper car, and now we're moving on to a new project. The new project is to make a car that has a base of wood, and runs on two motors for wheels, that can switch direction.
What problems have you overcome this week?
The problems that I have overcome this week is finishing the jumper car, and putting in an LED to run when the jumper car has power and is turned on.
What are the most significant problems you face at this time? What will you do to meet these problems?
The problems I face is now completing the new two wheeled car, and putting it together.
What materials or information do you need? How do you plan on getting these materials or information?
The materials and information that I need are motors, wires, wood base, copper, screws, and how to put it all together.
10-12-07
Briefly describe the project:
The project is to build jumper-cars.
What have you accomplished this week?
What I have accomplished this week is getting my jumper-car to operate from the remote control, and having it turn on and have the motor switch direction from the remote control.
What problems have you overcome this week?
The problems that I have overcome this week are setting up the remote control, and having the controls operate the way I want them to.
What are the most significant problems you face at this time? What will you do to meet these problems?
The most significant problems that I face at this time are getting my jumper-car to work completely from the remote control.
What materials or information do you need? How do you plan on getting these materials or information?
The materials or information that I need is an LED for the switch to notify when the power is turned on. I have one of these already, so I just need to put it in the right place, and connect it to the right wires.
9-28-07
Briefly describe the project:
To build a jumper car that can be completely controlled remotely.
What have you accomplished this week?
What I have accomplished this week is making my own battery box, building the base of the jumper car, attaching the motor, and soldering the wires to attach to the battery box and make the motor run.
What problems have you overcome this week?
The problems that I have overcome this week are getting the right materials for the battery box, finding working batteries, and attaching wires to the motor and battery box.
What are the most significant problems you face at this time? What will you do to meet these problems?
